You get the title right. Today’s topic is about Jelly Belly Makeup. Some of you may be confused, isn’t Jelly Belly is a confectionery brand? Yes, they are! I don’t know about it too till I went to Japan earlier this year. So, besides candy, Jelly Belly also sells other products such as makeup and merchandise too. However, the offers are exclusive to certain countries only. In other words, not all Jelly Belly sell them.

For example, on Jelly Belly UK’s and Japan’s website, you will find them selling merchandise like  Jelly Belly earphone. However, Jelly Belly Lip Balm, Jelly Belly Air Fresheners, Jelly belly Hampers and Jewel Collection are only available to purchase in UK only. Meanwhile, Jelly Belly Bicycle and Jelly Belly Makeup are only available to purchase in Japan only.

Jelly Belly Makeup

The Brand

Jelly Belly is  well known confectionery manufacture company basing in California. Jelly Belly is especially famous for its Gourmet Jelly Bean products. Up to today, Jelly Belly has over 58 flavors of Jelly Bean. From fruit flavors – to- dessert flavors – to – soda flavors, and even to beer; they have it all.

On National Jelly Bean Day in 2013, Jelly Belly introduced their Jelly Belly Jewel Collection featuring jelly beans with an iridescent sheen. Next, they also invented Sport Beans – a special formulated jelly beans for sports performance.

Next, as you all must know it, Jelly Beans products such as Disney line features Mickey Mouse and friends flavor, Dreamworks Trolls line flavors, Harry Potter’s Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Cold Stone Creamery, Soda Pop Shoppe, and more are owned by Jelly Belly.

The Jelly Belly Makeup

So,as mentioned above, the Jelly Belly Makeup is only available in Japan. I am not sure why Jelly Belly Japan decided to sell makeup, but they surely are interesting! Just imagine, Pretty Cosmetics featuring Jelly Belly Bean Flavors & Colors!

According to their official website, Jelly Belly Cosmetics were launched on July 2016, last year. There are 3 makeup categories launched: Jelly Belly Lip Gloss, Jelly Belly Eyeshadow and Jelly Belly Cheek & Lip. As you can see from the pictures, mine here are the eyeshadow and lip gloss.

Since there is no details regarding the products available from their website, and the information on the packaging is written in Japanese; I tried to search it from Google. Unfortunately, there is no information available at this time, when I write this post. I cannot find any review or other articles talking about these Makeup Beans. Therefore, I will try my best to write one. So, if you find one, please kindly share it with me by commenting below the link; or if you have tried it, please do not hesitate to share your experience by commenting below too! I am much appreciate it.

Jelly Belly Makeup – Lip Gloss

The lip gloss comes in 8 flavors. From the 8 flavors available, I have two: Cherry Passionfruit and Red Apple.

  • Both glosses contain shimmers and glitter chunks
  • Feels a little bit sticky
  • Not drying the lips
  • Tastes?
  • Transfers when you wear it to eat or drink
  • Does not last long
  • Though on hand swatches it looks like they have some colors – sheer pigmentation, but none is shown when you wear it on the lips. No matter how much layers you build, the shades will not show up.
  • Has transparent glossy finish
(L-R): Cherry Passionfruit, Red Apple

The Packaging

It comes in  a Jelly Belly trademark Jelly Bean shape packaging, which I think is very cute! On the top surface, it’s printed “Jelly Belly” logo. Each beans comes in different shade, which functions as color coding. Like the Red Apple flavor, for example, it comes in red. Meanwhile, the Peach Passionfruit comes in peachy pink shade packaging.

As for the size, these Jelly Belly glosses come in about children’s palm size-bean. So, it’s still in the travel-friendly-size. Inside, you will find a little mirror attached, which I think is very thoughtful of them and makes it perfect for travelling.

My Experience

From my experience using these glosses, they are basically just regular glosses packed with shimmers and glitter chunks. If you to get the shades to pop, I am highly suggesting you to combine it with other lip color makeup such as lip liner or lipstick first.  Nothing spectacular of these glosses, other than it comes in a very cute packaging. If you want to get glossy lip colors, I will suggest you to try Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss (high-end), or Maybelline Baby Lips Candy Wow Pencil.

Jelly Belly Makeup – Eyeshadow

The eyeshadow comes in 6 flavors. From the 8 flavors available, mine here is in the Chocolate Pudding Flavor.

  • Quite Pigmented
  • Powdery texture
  • Easily picked up by hands
  • Hard to pick up with makeup brushes
  • Easy to blend
  • Contain glitter chuncks
  • Has sheer and shimery finish
  • Hard to build intensity layers
  • Glitters do fall out
  • Glitters easily transfered
  • The glitters are messy and hard to clean
  • Not last long, even with primer on

Hand Swatches side by side, (L) without primer, (R) with primer

The Packaging

Just like the Jelly Belly lip gloss, the Jelly Belly eyeshadow comes in  a Jelly Belly trademark Jelly Bean shape packaging too. On the top surface, it’s printed “Jelly Belly” logo. Each beans comes in different shade, which functions as color coding. However, though the Chocolate Pudding shade comes in a chocolate burgundy packaging, but inside, as you have seen from the picture above, the shades inside is more like greenish-chocolate, instead of dark brown or dark chocolate shade.

As for the size, these Jelly Belly eyeshadow has the biggest size of bean in compare with the lip gloss ones. Yet, it’s still travel-friendly. Inside, you will find a little mirror attached, which I think is very thoughtful of them and makes it perfect for travelling.

My Experience

From my experience using this Jelly Belly Eyeshadow, I am not really sure about it. Though it’s quite pigmented, but to me it’s actually not pigmented enough. I am used to with pigmented eyeshadow like the Urban Decay’s, Too Faced’s and Morphe Brushes’ eyeshadows. They are the bomb in this matter. I know I should not compare the Asian eyeshadow quality with the western’s; for they both are created to serve different styles and trends. Yet, I still think that the Jelly Belly Eyeshadow has very sheer result. No matter how much layer I build, I am still not able to get the result I want. What’s more, I hate the glitters fall out. It’s very messy and hard to clean. Be careful not to touch your eyes when you wear this eyeshadow. It ‘s easily transferred.

I used UD Naked Basic on crease, brown bone and eyeline. I only used the Jelly Belly Eyeshadow on the lid

The Store & The Price

You can only purchase this makeup offline. Mine here, my mom bought it for me from a makeup store at Harajuku. I am not sure where else you can find it.

As for the price, I don’t know how much it costs, because I got it as a gift from my mom, and she can’t remember the price. Please comment below if you know the price, thank you!
