Haiku – Who Am I?

“Who Am I?” is an important question, one that I believe we need to slow down, meditate, and bring before God in prayer. Today, this quiet yet profound question becomes the topic of our Haiku Reflection.

Today’s Christian Haiku

The following Haiku is written as my personal reflection of meditating today’s bible reading, which was taken from Romans 8: 13-16 NASB version.

The Bible Verse

13 For if you are living in accord with the flesh,
you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds
of the body, you will live.

14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.

15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear againg,
but you have recieved a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters
by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.

The Spirit

It sets me free

I called Him “Abba! Father!”

The 2nd Haiku: New Life

Led by the Spirit

Adopted as His beloved child

The deeds of the body, death.

The Reflection

Who Am I?

The first Christian Haiku is my personal reflection of Romans 8:13-16. I tried to potrait the truth about identity and freedom through the Holy Spirit.

As the bible teaches us, when we recieve Jesus Christ as our Lord and King, we become His and are given the Holy Spirit. With His Spirit dwelling in us, we are no longer bound by the sting of sin – fear, guilt, or the need to define ourselves by the world standards anymore.

By His love and grace, we are adopted into His family. Therefore, our identity is no longer the same. We are now His child, and we can call him “Abba! Father!”

How beautiful!

New Life

The second Haiku is focusing on the life transformation after we are being adopted by God.

Before being adopted, we were bound by the power and sting of sin. No matter how hard we tried, it was hard to live a righteous life. We knew what was right, yet we found ourselves unable to live it out, leaving us with many regrets, pain and sorrow.

Thanks to Jesus, now we have a new identity and fresh life.  Through His salvation, the sinful deeds of the body were put to death. Led by His Spirit, we are now free to live in righteousness and able to do what is right. No more regrets and sorrow.

Closing Statement

Both Christian Haiku were written as reflections from a personal meditation on Romans 8:13-18. I hope it may remind us all that Christ came not only to save us, but also to make us His. Through Him, our identity and status are changed; hence, our lives are not the same anymore.

Personally, I can’t thank Him enough. Therefore, I decided to use this platform to reflect my gratitude of His amazing love and grace.

My prayer is that as we walk daily with Him and are led by His Spirit, our lives will continue to be transformed, enabling us to live in the righteousness He calls us to. Amin.

Love,
