Mineral Botanica Lip Cream Matte [Makeup Review]

Hello there, today I am back with a makeup review. I know it’s been a while since my last makeup review. Also, please accept my sincere apology for being missing in action for a while. I am currently taking a makeup class. It’s more challenging than I thought, but I really enjoy it. I haven’t been enjoying myself as much as I am now. For the same reason, I am announcing that I am gonna change my blog post update schedule from once a week to every two week, i.e. twice a month.

Back to out main topic, still in the hype of Matte Liquid Lipstick, for today’s blog post update, I am gonna share with you my thoughts on Mineral Botanica Lip Cream Matte. Is it as good as the hype that claimed? Does the it worth price?

The Brand

I don’t have much information about the brand, because they have no websites. However, they have official social medias (Facebook & Instagram) that you can check here and here.

In short, Mineral Botanica is a local / Indonesian cosmetic brand that offers Decorative Makeup Cosmetics and tools, Skin Care and Body Care products. They have an aim to deliver high customer satisfaction in commercially attractive and environmentally viable packaging.

And as mentioned earlier, I am gonna share with you about their Matte Lip Cream. There are 11 shades available:

The Quality

In general, the Soft Matte Lip Cream:

  • has  a soft and smooth texture
  • a little goes a long the way
  • is paraben free
  • BPOM Certified

Shade 002 – Champaigne Beige

The Shade

Champaigne Beige is a baby pink shade (light pink shade). If you have a light/fair skin tone, this is not the shade for you. It will definitely make you look pale, as you can see on the swatch. However, Champaigne Beige will definitely rock for medium – dark skintone.

Fortunately, there is a trick to handle the situation, that is by using a dark lip liner. So, before applying the liquid lipstick, frame and fill your lips with the lip liner; then top it off with the liquid lipstick. I will suggest you to use two shades darker than the liquid lipstick’s shade to get a better result.

The Formula

In regards with the formula, I think Champaigne Beige has the worse formula among the three shades I owned:

  • For a cream, it has a quite runny texture, that it can be tricky for people who are not use to liquid lipstick.
  • It takes time to dry
  • When it drys, it feels quite tight to wear, and looks patchy ; I have to apply extra coat and be really careful not to ruin it to take picture of the shade.
  • The shades settles in lines (I don’t find it annoying or needs to be raised as issues, but it may be an issue for some people)
  • Though it looks dry on the lips, but it is actually not as dry as it looks; it actually transfers when you eat or drink.
  • Another issue that I don’t like is that it picks up on dry skins on the lips. So I will suggest you to scrub your lips properly first before applying this lipstick to get the perfect look.

Shade 009 – Pinky Orange

The Shade

Pinky Orange is a Pinky Peach shade. It is a very nice shade to have. This shade has a warm undertone that makes it the perfect combo for any day look, and will compliment a sexy night look with smokey eyes.  If you know me, I am a neutral shade girl. So, I hardly wear bright shade like Pinky Orange. However, I find this wearable. The brightness is just enough – not too dark but not too bright as well. I think this shade can be rocked by any skin colors.

The Formula

In regards with the formula, Pinky Orange has better formulation than Champaigne Beige

Pro:

  • Similar with Champaigne Beige, for a cream, it has a quite runny texture, but is still more manageable.
  • It dries quicker
  •  shades settles in lines (I don’t find it annoying or needs to be raised as issues, but it may be an issue for some people)

Con:

  • Just like Champaigne Beige, though it looks dry on the lips, but it is actually not as dry as it looks; it actually transfers when you eat or drink.
  • Another issue that I don’t like is that it picks up on dry skins on the lips. So I will suggest you to scrub your lips properly first before applying this lipstick to get the perfect look.

So, in conclusion,Pinky Orange is a beautiful bright shade to have and to rock for an instant boost of an energetic and cheerful day look. For a night look, Pinky Orange will give you  a sexy night look by complimenting your smokey eyes. Also, it has better formulation than Champaigne Beige. This is my favourite.

Shade 010 – Orchid Pink

The Shade

It is a soft pink shade, similar with Champaigne Beige, but not as pale.

The Formula

Pro:

  • Orchid Pink has the best formula among the three shades I have. The Cream is not too thick, but not too runny, even better than Pinky Orange.
  • It is very easy to apply or to work with, and dry quicker too than the first two shades.
  • Just like the previous two, it settles in lines that you can see the lines on your lips.

Cons:

  • As mentioned above, for a matte lipstick, I have to disagree with the name. It  looks matte on the mirror, but when you touch your lips, you can feel that the products is as dry as it looks. Also, it transfers when you drink or eat.
  • Another issue that I don’t like is that it picks up on dry skins on the lips. So I will suggest you to scrub your lips properly first before applying this lipstick to get the perfect look.

The Packaging

The design of the packaging is Mineral Botanica trademark – a dark grey box with Mineral Botanica logo on it. It is very consistent with other Mineral Botanica packaging. Inside, the liquid lipstick is packaged in an elegant dark grey bottle with Mineral Botanica Logo, the product’s name and ingredients on it. At the bottom of the bottle, we have the color code and the shade’s information.

As for the applicator, just like other liquid lipstick and lip gloss, it comes with a doe feet applicator, which allows us to apply the product easily on the lips.

On the side of the bottle, we have the production date and code, so we can know the freshness of the product that it’s not expired.

pink-swirly-hiThe Price

As for the price, I am not too sure how much it costs now, for a new player in the market (about 2-3 years since their first launching), the price has been rocketing. If I am not wrong (please correct me in the comment section if I do), they started from Rp 35,000.- to Rp 50,0000.-, and now it costs about Rp 50,0000.- to Rp 80,000.- Well, it also depends on where you buy it. If you buy it online from Lazada, they are very costly. I got it at Teras Kota (BSD, Tangerang Selatan) for about Rp 53,000.- . A few days ago, I found Mineral Botanica at Giant Supermarket’s beauty counter. So, it gets easir to find them. Otherwise, you can always buy them online. Check out their Social Media for more information of their approved re-seller.

That’s all my review of Mineral Botanica Soft Matte Lip Cream. In conclusion, though in general each shades have different textures, but in general the lip cream is not really matte that it transfers when you eat or drink; it falls into lines, and it picks up on dry skin. Therefore, I highly recommend you to scrub your lips properly before applying this lipstick. Of all liquid lipsticks I have, I find Mineral Botanica so-so – I don’t hate it, but it is not my favourite too; you may say that I am in the middle. However, if I have to choose my favourite shade, among the three shades I have, the Pinky Orange (009) is my favourite <3.

Rating: 3/5

Recommendation: If you really wanna try this Lip Cream, I will recommend you to get the shade 009 – Pinky Orange.

At this moment, please allow me to apologize to you for being MIA for a month. I was having technical difficulties with WordPress that I was not able to post anything for the whole month. I had tried to update everything, and still could not post and update my other posts at all. I have followed every tips that I found relevant from the WordPress forum too, yet, nothing worked. At the end, thanks to the WordPress support team, now I have the issue fixed by them, and able to post this long-overdue review. I hope you have a good time and find my blog enjoyable to read :).
